    Effects of wind shear

Isn't that some fancy new left wing Corbynista political mob?
  3. A slightly different microlight gold medal story.

    Very true, Ted.

I ran into Andy a couple of months ago riding up the Wye Valley from Monmouth to Chepstow. As we cycled along together for a few miles, he was telling me all about the training he...
  4. A slightly different microlight gold medal story.

Some here may know Andy Lewis who used to fly a SkyRanger. He has just won himself a gold medal in the triathlon at the Paralympics in Rio.

    Way to go, Andy.

  5. New Medical Declaration Total Cockup..

The real issue here isn't the system problems or the extra territoriality (which, as Donald says, isn't a problem).

The issue here is the long list of exceptions that makes this a demographic time...
  6. Changes to the Self Declaration Medical system - 25 August 2016

One issue is the question of the long list of exclusions, and the requirement to cancel your existing gp countersigned certificate if you fall under one of those. There was discussion on the Flyer...
  7. Changes to the Self Declaration Medical system - 25 August 2016

And one with Scottish parents to boot.
  8. Changes to the Self Declaration Medical system - 25 August 2016

No, I would argue that until they notify you to the contrary you are fully legal. That advice, of course, isn't coming from a lawyer, and might well be worth exactly what you paid for it. ;-)
  9. Changes to the Self Declaration Medical system - 25 August 2016

They can't, Paul, as the CAA have withdrawn it. That isn't the BMAA's fault.

There has been some discussion on the Flyer Forum on this matter. My best guess is that the CAA are redrafting the form...

    Memberships and Syndication issues

    Keven,

Mine had a new weight certificate last year. As you say, the BMAA could have introduced the new process after existing certificates expired much as the CAA are going to honour existing self...

    Memberships and Syndication issues

There have been a number of constructive suggestions on these pages that need following up, but probably won't be.

Earlier on in the thread, there was discussion of why people give up. Here is my...

    Memberships and Syndication issues

It is a real shame that most of the recent posts, which are in the public area of this forum, are probably doing more to put visitors off microlighting than attract them to it. Somewhat ironic given...

    SSDR, Does it really exist?

It was, indeed, Kevin. Have you seen it?

    SSDR, Does it really exist?

I saw a recently completed Phantom at our club fly in last week, Kevin. It was very impressive.

    Crash today

I'd make a few comments here. First, is that when I was winched launched in the air cadets, I recall we were taught to hold the nose down for the first hundred feet as speed was safety and under...

  18. BMAA News item: New BMAA Check Flying System is Go

Having just glanced through the latest magazine, I suggest we don't let any prospective students look at that photo from the instructors' seminar. That will scare them off for sure. What a fierce and...
  19. BMAA News item: New BMAA Check Flying System is Go

The real material cost saving doesn't come from the bursaries, the competitions, or even the magazine. It comes from getting rid of the whole permit process. No tech office, no related admin. Dsdr...

Just as well you didn't have a GPS on the front strut, though, Kev. Just think of the mess that would have caused.

    Solved the check flight problem

Having just received an email from the Tech Office about a survey on climb performance at different empty weights, my bet is that this is currently under review.

    Weightshift Flying

A good rule of thumb I remember from my hang gliding days is that the roughest days are often the day after a cold front has passed through. Of course, these are often the days with the best...
  25. BMAA News item: New BMAA Check Flying System is Go

At the end of the day, though, Paul, for whatever reason we now have one extra requirement to meet that wasn't there before.

Personally, this isn't an issue for me personally as I'm both happy to...
