    Fuel gauge not working correctly

    Hi
The fuel gauge on my 2007 C42, is showing full continuously. My guess is the sender in the Fuel tank.
I have looked through the maintenance manuals for some clues diagrams etc.- nothing!!!
Has anybody had the same problem?
Any advise would be gratefully received
    Many thanks
    Colin

    Fuel gauge not working correctly

    Hello Colin

Yes I'd say its the sender there known to be a bit rubbish.
Mine works then stops. I remove the leads and give it and good clean and it seems to help.

    Fuel gauge not working correctly

    Hi Colin

I now have a spare fuel tank sender and have measured the resistance range which is 75 ohms empty and 4ohms full to the top

The signal wire from the back of the gauge goes to the insulated connector on the sender and simply measures the resistance to ground (minus 12v)

If this wire has a short to any metal part of your C42 then the gauge will read full but this is easily checked with a multimeter. If there a break in the wire or poor connection the gauge will read empty. The other possibility might be if the float is stuck at the top of the tube and a sharp tap with a nylon hammer or similar should fix it. The gauges themselves are quite reliable but we have a spare old type (only shows full and empty with no fraction markers) if you want to try it?

Attached is the data sheet which I hope helps and best of luck sorting the problem

    Fuel gauge not working correctly

    Hi Colin

    Thanks for letting me know

Glad the hammer or "Birmingham screwdriver"as it is known locally worked as it is always a good universal fix it tool !?

    Regards
