    Location of transponder Antenna

    Hello All

Any ideas on the best place for the transponder Antenna. I was going to put it under the plane between the wheels but i wondered would the undercarriage affect the signal.
    Any ideas?

    Thanks

    Location of transponder Antenna

    Hi Mark

The best place for the transponder antenna is in the lower fuselage shell behind the main wheels. Remember you will need an thin aluminium plate as a ground plane and I suggest a minimum size of around 6 in (150mm) square which must have a good electrical; connection to the braiding of the coax cable/base of the antenna

Will take some pics of where and how we fit them and post here later today

    Thank you Malc

    I would appreciate that.
Do you know if aluminum foil tape would work as a plate?
They use it on ductwork in AC systems.

    Location of transponder Antenna

    Hi Mark

Sorry a bit late but attached are some pictures of the transponder I have just fitted to a new aircraft which shows where they are fitted by the factory

Yes you can use aluminium tape as long as all the strips of tape are electrically connected to each other as the self-adhesive glue can act as an insulator.

The size should be a minimum of 150mm square

    Hope this helps
