    Newbie questions

But why does a post from 2011 by an American not seen on the forum since then, resurface?

    No-one to welcome!

    Newbie questions

Oh dear, I'm beginning to regret trying to be helpful.
The links in this thread entry in the FAQs section were out of date.
Enquirers can no longer join the forum for free to ask their questions.
I thought they might come to this section to look for the answers here.
If they did, it is right to point them in the correct direction, not to a dead link.
When I said "welcome' I was addressing any 'Newbie' who came to read this
    'Newbie Question" thread.

After that a forum game developed...

That's exactly how it read - at least to me!

    Joan,

Please don't stop being helpful or regret doing so.

    The ever helpful Joan raises an interesting point;

What's the point of a newbie section?

    or the members section?

P.S. I have no axe to grind, I don't wish to take part in "the debate".

    Newbie questions

    Hi Laurie,
As I resurrected this section, I'll tell my thoughts.

Since its inception, this FAQ section has had the status that only an administrator can open a new thread but any poster has been able to add to the thread. Now that non-members can not use these FAQ threads to ask clarification of points made, I feel it is beholden on the rest of us to try to keep the answers up to date where possible. My reasoning for this is that it is the logical place any newcomer to our sport would start their research if they found these forums - I know that if I were to consider a new sport I'd look up the governing body's web site and look for an FAQ somewhere, then I might progress to their forum and, lo, there's an FAQ section there so let's read that!

So, anybody starting would, I naively imagine, would open and read this Newbie Questions thread hoping to find answers to their basic questions.

Repeating what I wrote earlier but in bold for the sake of clarity:

"It's quite a while since these questions were posted and most of the links are no longer valid since the BMAA web site has been revamped. Best bet is to go to www.bmaa.org and follow the big red button on the home page."

Despite having some 850+ microlight hours in my log books, I followed your advice and clicked the Red Button. I took a random line "Do I need a licence to fly a microlight? Answer" and was instantly taken to the 'licence' page. But nowhere did it tell me that the answer was YES, I needed a licence. It dealt with licence issues quite thoroughly, but missed the point of the question that the Licence was compulsory. Just an observation you understand.
