    Dear Members,

As you may be aware the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) have proposed some changes to the Air Navigation Order (ANO) which concern the National Private Pilotís Licence (NPPL).

Some of the changes affect microlight pilots directly. These are principally:

Changes to the revalidation/renewal requirements for NPPL holders

Proposed changes to the revalidation/renewal requirements for existing PPL holders flying microlights

Proposed changes to the medical requirements for existing PPL holders flying microlights

The introduction of a Flying Instructor rating for inclusion with the NPPL

The introduction of an Assistant Flying Instructor rating for inclusion with the NPPL

    Requirements for differences training

Details of the proposals, together with an introductory letter and Regulatory Impact Assessment (RIA) have been available on the CAA web site for direct access and through a link from the BMAA website.

The BMAA have been involved in negotiation with the CAA over several years through the NPPL Policy and Steering Committee leading up to these proposals.

The final proposals do not reflect the preferred position of the BMAA on some of the points addressed.

The BMAA response to the RIA is posted on this web site. Members are invited to read the BMAA response.

If any member feels that they would also like to respond as an individual the BMAA as a representative of all microlight pilots would encourage that. Members responding should do so in their own words addressing the matters that they feel concerned about. Well-reasoned comment from individuals has an impact on the final outcome of the RIA.

Comments should be made in writing, preferably by e-mail, to:

    NPPL Coordinator
    Personnel Licensing Department
    Civil Aviation Authority
    Aviation House
    Gatwick Airport South
    West Sussex
    RH6 0YR

    e-mail: nppl@caa.co.uk

to arrive no later than 2nd April 2007

    Very poorly thought out amendments

Particularly in light of LAASG and the EPPL coming along sometime soon.

    Rob

Is there any update on this?

I spoke to Geoff at Popham and he said the CAA thought he and I had made a good case.

I'd be interested in any news.

    Pete

I am no longer on Council, having resigned last year due to the fact that I now live in Switzerland and work for the FAI.

May I suggest you contact one of the current Council members for more info?

    Rob
