  • Airzone interface and new 8.33 radios.

When I have to bite the bullet and throw away my perfectly good Icom A20 VHF....will my old but still very good Airzone interface still be usable...or is there an easy mod for them.

Anybody help me on this pne.

    Nick.

I suspect the only change will be the PTT arrangement Nick.
On the A2,A20, transmit is initiated by a PTT in series with the interface microphone circuit (2-pole 2.5mm mic jack).
On later radios, the PTT is a separate circuit and the mic is permanently connected (3-pole 2.5mm jack).
I'm assuming the A6 is one of these 'later' arrangements.
In the Lynx intercom, there is a set of DIP switches to make the change.
Don't know whether the Airzone has a similar arrangement.

Anyone using an Airzone on an A22, A24, A3, etc?

This is the case from the A3E onwards, mic jack is a 3 pole offering...

The AZ interface will work with the A6. It just needs re configuring

Sorry to hijack the thread and maybe it's been answered already but can the a3 be changed to 8.33?

No. Only a very late firmware version of the A6 Mk1 can, but here are very few of them, most sold in France as A6 FR. Sell the A3 outside Europe, and get the 8.33 Icom or Yaesu.

Now there's a thing...would I be able to configure my AZ interface to world with Yaesu equip...seems much cheaper....or is that not a good idea.

I have used the yaesu radios for about 9 years and found them very good the only issue I ever had was around tv/radio transmission masts I got bleed through from classic fm on one occassion

Happens me as well William with the a3. Got a nice bit of fiddle playing one day. Thanks Steve, that sounds like a plan. Only problem is the flycom interface that slots onto it
